A Little About Rob

A little about myself (I won't include anything that will hold up in a court of law).

I was born in Chemainus BC in 1953; started work in 1972; married in 1977; our last anniversary was our 35th and we have no plans on slowing down.

We kayaked Chilko Lake our first trip, then headed back to the Coast where the shoreline is more interesting (read no grizzlies on the beach).

Yes it's true, I live on Vancouver Island and haven't hiked the West coast trail, or paddled in the Broken Island group!    We just have a water taxi plunk us down on a beach and go from there.

We've kayaked in the Broughton Archipelago on the Eastside of the Island, Brooks Peninsula and Jackobson Point on the Westside, backpacked in Strathcona Park.

I was trained in oils at an early age, but since I started up painting again in 2009, I've gone to acrylics. I find it more workable for my needs; I don't like waiting for paint to dry (you know what that's like).

A lot of my paintings are from photos taken on various trips:  Strathcona Park, the East and West coasts of the Island are favourite haunts, as well as the Interior of B.C.
I'm also a 'freelance editorial cartoonist' at least that's what the papers call me. I've been doing it for over 20 years with 2 local papers, won some Awards... between the two I've had 1,815 toons published to this point ,(and those are just the ones I'll admit to)  The papers want a local flavour so that's what I do.   Some stand on their own so those are the ones I'll post in the cartoon gallery.  Yes I do draw from experience; hiking, kayaking, beer league hockey, work.

Other assorted stuff:

  • Ran a couple of Marathons (I like the crowds!)
  • Drawn more cartoons then I can remember
  • I've been to Paris to see the Mona Lisa
  • I've played and coached some Hockey.*

*Some of the kid's I've coached have gone on to work in the community ... sure it was court ordered ... but I like to think I had some influence.
